BECOMING A

FELLOW

Talented, enthusiastic, unique, and informed are just a few of the qualities that describe fellows of the SRFI. These individuals will receive support through a variety of opportunities aimed at realizing the promise of their full potential. In order to identify the most promising talent, acceptance of fellows into the SRFI will be done via application.

Second, third, and fourth year Fashion Design students and recent Fashion Design graduates from Ryerson University are eligible to apply. A selection committee will review applications and invite candidates to an interview. Up to three fellows will be admitted each year.

Applications for the SRFI are currently closed until March 2020.

The SRFI fellowship program is unique in the Canadian fashion landscape attracting fellows early in their academic and creative careers. With the launch of the SRFI, undergraduate students from third and fourth year fashion design along with recent graduates undergo a competitive selection process to become Fellows of the Institute. The SRFI provides perspective for an elite group of students and alumni working in the field to bridge the transition from their fashion education to practice.

Made possible through a gift from The Edward and Suzanne Rogers Foundation, the SRFI at the School of Fashion in the Faculty of Communication and Design at Ryerson University supports emerging Canadian fashion designers nationally and internationally.

Suzanne Rogers is a Canadian fashion enthusiast and a notable supporter of the Canadian fashion industry.   Her passionate involvement extends across a spectrum of events and organizations, including her ongoing support of the Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI) and The Suzanne Rogers Award for Most Promising New Label.  Suzanne is also a Founding Ambassador and Jury Member of the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA) and is Chair of the Editorial Board of Canadian Fabric Magazine.

Born in the Northern Ontario town of Elliot Lake, Suzanne has a passion for charitable causes.  She supports multiple initiatives that directly improve and help the lives of children and has raised $2.5 million for children’s charities with her signature events “Suzanne Rogers Presents” which bring in international designers for a full fashion show and gala dinner.   Rogers contributes her leadership skills to several charities through her work with the Butterfly Ball in support of Boost Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, Covenant House, and the Governor General Performing Arts Awards.

Over the years, Suzanne has shown her continued support within the Ryerson fashion community and is excited by the work of both current students and alumni.
